Ella Mai Addresses Jacquees Situation, Rumored Sex Tape And More On Hot 97

Ella Mai denies being behind the move to pull Jacquees’ remix and the rumor that she blocked the Cash Money singer on Instagram.

Last month it was reported, Ella Mai reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to singer Jacquees after his remix of her song, “Trip,” outperformed the original. Jacquees’ rep released a statement via Billboard. The statement read:

“For the new people who are just catching up to who Jacquees is as an artist, this has become very controversial for no reason. We love Ella and are cool with her team as well. He has been releasing not only Quemix songs but entire projects with remixes of other artists’ songs ranging back to 2013. This was an act of genuine support and should not turn into negativity for either of the artist or from their supporters.”

Jacquees’ camp also indicates the Cash Money signee remains hopeful that he and Mai will team up for an “original collaboration” down the line. Jacquees’ rep continued in the statement:

“He is about to release a video for his new single, ‘You,’ and [he] hopes the two are able to collaborate. There is still hope for the song as an official remix or maybe fans will get something better that is an original collaboration.”

And also, DJ Mustard -who signed Ella Mai to his label 10 Summers released a statement on Instagram.

Now, Ella Mai is promoting her new album on Hot 97. During the interview, the singer addressed the Jacquees situation including why the song was taken down, and whether he was blocked, a rumored sex tape that was released (and proven not to be her), the success of her hit single “Boo’d Up”, linking up with DJ Mustard and much more.

At the 8:20 mark of the interview, Ella tells her side of the story. She said:

“I don’t play any role in it, to be honest. I feel like my label made a statement, and there’s not really much else to say about it to be honest. People are gonna take it how they want.”

She does say, however, that she cares about the situation only because she doesn’t want anyone assuming it was all her doing. She added:

“People don’t actually know the real ins and outs of the industry,”

As for if she minds if anyone covers or remixes one of her songs, she said:

“No, I don’t mind at all.”

As someone who got her start doing covers, she says she’s very aware of how the industry works with those, and that it only really becomes an issue when monetization is involved. As for the rumor that she blocked the Jacquees on Instagram, she said she never followed him to begin with. You can watch the full interview below.
