Prince Harry and Meghan Markle say the proposal happened on a “cosy night” when they were “just roasting a chicken.”
Harry of course had to let his grandmother the Queen know beforehand that’s royal protocol as the prince is fifth in line to the throne and he apparently asked Markle’s parents, Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle, for their blessing as well. At the photocall in the Kensington Palace gardens following their engagement announcement Harry, 33, was asked when he knew Meghan, 36, was the one. The “the very first time we met” came his quick reply. When asked how they were feeling after sharing the exciting news, Harry replied:
“Thrilled.”
A moment of levity came when the Prince made a joke about London’s overcast skies.
“I’m just so glad it’s not raining!”
A beaming Meghan, who wore a belted white wrap coat by Line the Label, thanked the assembled journalists and told them that she was “so happy.”
While a wedding date hasn’t been set just yet, Kensington Palace confirmed we can look forward to Meghan and Harry’s nuptials in spring of 2018. As part of their first interview since announcing their royal engagement, the couple also discussed their long-distance romance, their different backgrounds, and what it was like for Markle to meet the Queen and her corgis.
